PRODUCTION SERVICES

    Production Coordinator - Nancy Thacker (336)342-4761 ext.18 e-Mail

This program provides vocational training in a real work situation for those with emotional disabilities. Many of them need to regain confidence in their abilities to re-enter the world of employment; they may also need to stabilize their treatment regimen. Our goal is to help prepare them to resume productive, independent lives in their community.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

    Hallie Thompson (336)342-4761 ext.20 e-Mail

In the best of all worlds, there will always be a need for people to have a roof over their heads. ROC Residential Services provides more than that. There are six Adult Group Homes located throughout Rockingham County. Most of the homes were built in conjunction with the NC ARC Housing Development Services, using funds granted to them by HUD specifically to serve the developmentally disabled.

Group home managers provide services 24-hours a day, 365 days a year so that consumers can function as independently as possible in the community, rather than in an institution which may be as much as 100 miles away.

There are developmental and community living activities, daily living skills training, recreation and camping, as well as trips to the grocery, the movies and the doctors - all things one would expect to encounter while living at home but are often denied to the developmentally disabled.

DAY SERVICES

Linda Hairston (336)342-4761 ext.13 e-Mail

This division is responsible for the daily program of services provided primarily at ROC.

Adult Developmental Vocational Programs (ADVP) Individual goals are accomplished through real work experiences as well as classroom activities in Adult Basic Education and Adult Compensatory Education in conjunction with RCC, field trips and activities of daily living.

Facility-Based Services - This program is for adults who have a severe or profound level of disability. They already live in our community; however, a job is not feasible at this time. The services provided will strive to make the events of daily living a success.

Community-Based Services provide for those adults who have a moderate to severe level of disability, however, job placement is feasible at this time or in the near future. These adults need support and guidance to enter into the world of employment successfully.

Individual Skills Training (IST) is a day service program. Our staff implements habilitation treatment plans provided by Mental Health Services. These plans enhance the consumer’s daily, self-help and social skills. Consumers participate in community outings to integrate them into community activities.

Recreational Services provide a needed break from the stress of daily living activities. Consumers have gone to football and basketball games, shopping trips to the malls, sightseeing in the mountains, surfing at the beach and animal watching at the zoo. They have fun!!

This program also provides some weekday recreation for the ADVP and Rainbow Center as well as conducting Special Olympics activities for ROC.

The Rainbow Center serves our aging clientele. ROC, in conjunction with the Rockingham County Council on Aging, implemented the “Rainbow C.E.N.T.E.R” program (Community Enrichment, Nutrition, Trips, Enjoyment and Relaxation). Our consumers experience a more relaxed atmosphere, whether sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, enjoying the beautiful flowers nearby, planted by both consumers and staff, or indulging in a game of horseshoe, the atmosphere is one of enjoyment and relaxation. An advantage of involving oneself in this program is that our consumers can choose to participate or not participate; they decide on the days of attendance and the activities they’d like to enjoy. Activities are provided each day at the Center.

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

Executive Director - Jeff Pruett (336)342-4761 ext.11 e-Mail

Several models of supported employment exist at this time at ROC. All of the models have one goal, placement in jobs in the community where the participants live so that they can become productive, tax paying citizens. This will improve their self-esteem, increase their independence and refine their abilities to deal with others.

Job Coach Model – An individual is paired with a job coach who assists them in finding a job that matches their skills, abilities and desires. It is the responsibility of the coach to help the individual learn to do the job to the satisfaction of the employer. This achieved, the job coach leaves the individual on their new job. Periodic checks are made on the employee as long as is necessary. Contact one of the following for more details.

    Lee Ann Artis e-Mail

    Angie Fulp e-Mail

    Olympia Strange e-Mail

Mobile Work Crew – This is a group rather than an individual model of supported employment. In this model, a group of three to five workers performs janitorial, landscaping or yard maintenance services in the community.
